Josephine County Adult Jail Overview
The Josephine County Adult Jail is the primary and only mapped detention facility for this county inmate population project. It is operated by the Josephine County Sheriff's Office at the Sheriff's headquarters campus in Grants Pass. The jail holds adults booked into local custody, including people waiting for first appearance, people held on warrants or holds, local sentenced inmates, and people with Josephine County Circuit Court dates.
The county's jail page says the facility was built in 2000 and describes it as a 262-bed jail. The same page says the jail is currently able to house a maximum of 185 local inmates. That distinction should be kept intact: 262 is the physical or rated bed figure, while 185 is the county's current local-inmate maximum. A live roster observation on June 25, 2026 showed 145 in-custody records, but live counts change.

The roster detail can include demographics, booking number, booking date, release date, housing facility, total bond, total bail, booking origin, bond rows, court rows, docket numbers, and charge rows. It is a custody record, not the final court case record.

Visit Josephine County Adult Jail
Josephine County uses onsite and remote video visits. Adults in custody are allowed two free onsite video visits each week, scheduled in 15- or 30-minute increments. Visits must be scheduled at least 24 hours and not more than one week before the visit. Availability can vary by custody status, classification, or another appointment.
| Visit type | Days | Hours | Scheduling rule | Limit or cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Onsite video | Monday-Sunday | 7 a.m.-9 p.m. | Schedule 24 hours to one week in advance | Two free onsite visits per week, 15 or 30 minutes |
| Remote video | Monday-Sunday | 7 a.m.-9 p.m. when AIC is available | Schedule based on availability | Fee not published on county page |
Family and friend video visits are recorded and monitored. The county may deny, cancel, or terminate visits for misconduct, improper clothing, contraband displays, gang signs, or failure to supervise minors. Call the jail during posted weekday hours for help with video scheduling.
Mail Josephine County Adult Jail
Personal mail does not go directly to the jail. Josephine County uses Securus Digital Mail Center scanning for personal mail, and physical mail is destroyed 30 days after upload. Legal mail and direct publications still go to the jail address. Money orders, checks, and cash are not accepted through mail.
| Mail type | Address | Rules |
|---|---|---|
| Personal mail | Inmate Name and Securus ID#, Josephine County Adult Jail, C/O Securus DMC, PO Box 20126, Tampa, FL 33622 | Scanned to kiosks; improperly addressed mail may be returned or delayed. |

The county's mail and property page is captured in the project image set.
The screenshot reinforces the unusual local detail that personal mail is processed through Tampa, Florida, while legal mail and publications go to Grants Pass.
Phone Money and Commissary
Josephine County uses Securus for inmate phones. Outgoing calls are available 7 a.m.-9 p.m. after booking and intake are complete. Calls are limited to 15 minutes, and collect or prepaid card options are used. Inmates cannot receive incoming calls, and jail staff will not pass messages. Calls are recorded and monitored except attorney calls.

Booking at Josephine Adult Jail
Booking creates the jail profile that later appears in the public roster when enough data is entered. The process includes identification, a subject number, booking number, booking date, booking origin, property handling, medical or mental-health screening, classification, phone access after intake, and first court or bond fields when available. The AIC Manual states that all adults in custody are charged an $8 booking fee covering a toiletry pack, wristband, mug shot, and prints.
Property rules are strict. The jail accepts only prescription medication approved by the Jail Medical Clinic. Clothing, books, toiletries, over-the-counter medication, and sundries are not accepted by jail staff. Property release while lodged requires supervisory approval and generally applies to inmates sentenced to prison.
Josephine Jail Programs
The Adult in Custody Manual describes rules intended to support safe custody, control, comfortable living conditions, fair treatment, constitutional rights, work habits, self-discipline, and personal worth. Food service is handled by Aramark Correctional Services. The county meal page says the meal plan averages 2,500 calories per day over a week, is approved by a dietitian, and follows American Correctional Association guidelines.
Qualified inmates can become inmate workers and earn time off jail sentences while performing supervised tasks. The research did not capture a full grievance procedure, so detailed grievance steps should not be invented. For custody, visit, money, phone, mail, or roster status questions, confirm the current rule with the jail before acting.
Note: Confirm custody and visit availability before travel because court orders, classification, appointments, releases, and transfers can change the schedule.
